When I need to feel grounded or am lacking extra strength, Patchouli helps me feel the earth underneath my feet and to connect me with my inner male.
…when my head is too much up in the Summer of Patchouli LOVE clouds a drop of patchouli oil brings me right back into reality, connecting me with mother earth.
How do I love thee?
From morning all through the night, I personally have always loved Patchouli. Even though I have not lived consciously in the sixties, I think I would have been a patchouli lover there and then.
I love its rich musky-sweet, strong spicy and herbaceous, soapy smell and associate it with feeling clean and earthy. I love how the smell develops on the skin of men. For me Patchouli has a male association, even though it is said to be a female plant that is ruled by the planet Saturn.
Patchouli blends well with almost every oil, making it a different story and melody in each combination.
When I use Patchouli in my perfumes, it is used in rather subtle doses, adding it to enhance and ground the blend, to give it foundation and strength.
Spice Blend, Precious Woods and Nectar of Love all contain Patchouli in various concentrations.
Since I love working with chakras and their subtle properties, they have become a daily ritual for me. Patchouli is not to be missed in April Aromatics Root Chakra Oil and Spray.
Also Indian Forest Mist loves Patchouli.
Much has been said and written about patchouli already and I will spare the botanical details here.
Like with all the oils that I use in my blends, I try to intuitively connect with the energy of the plant.
What does it tell me?
What does it want to teach me?
What impressions do I receive?
What colours?
Do I like the smell?
Do I sense it in any particular area of my body, in any energy center?
What texture, shape, feeling, sensation, sound and memory do I feel?
What are its subtle properties?
With which chakras is it most connected?
What are its energy gifts?
I listened and patchouli answered me:
It tells me that our bodies are sacred and to treat them as such. It wants to help us to ground at the same time; it wants to lift our spirit and our mind to be able to be dancing in the light of the sun.
It is showing us, especially through its scent to use our sensuality and physical desires as a sacred gift, helping us to release anxiety on all levels.
It wants us to connect back to our utmost tribal connections to mother earth, digging our hands and feet deep into the ground, finding our connection to the earth again, that we lost long ago.
It tells us that we are safe here on earth and that we as people need to find back to our roots, connecting each other as ONE. It wants us to come back to the original act of creation, sharing our gifts, supporting each other as brothers and sisters and not making us separate from everyone else. Once we find our way back together, through communities or else, the world will heal.
This is a perfect plant/oil to be focused upon during this challenging time on earth and I thank Monica Miller for being so in tune to choose Patchouli. Together with our Patchouli scents we can spread the message and the LOVE into the world.
I am honored to be part of this.
Thank you and Namaste.

I agree! Patchouli is very grounding, but once it’s blended with spices and florals, it has the power to lift you to the stars!
I would like to take this moment to give thanks to Monica….
and the Perfume Pharmer’s….and the Perfumers.
I am just a humble massage therapist who mixes oils in the palms of my hands…
All of your work, your thoughts, your verve, inspires me greatly.
Bringing Patchouli into my practice has practically gotten me fired ,
yet grounded a certain energy that is important for these days.
Earth energy, is very important these days…

Wonderful articles and great introduction to the Patchouli Project and the new summer of love. Thank you Monica.
Sorry, I haven’t thanked you yet personally. This is very beautiful Monica. So much care and love went into your article. I love that you added Angelina in the end.
The patchouli project is so perfect right now and I am actually enjoying my own creation during this beautiful “arriving” summer time. Hope the bottles arrives at our house soon…
Much love,
Tanja
Tanya, what a beautiful way to decribe patchouli….I particularly like the words you gave each letter…almost a patchouli mantra!
