A Midsummer Night’s Dream Scent Event ~ Part 5. 3 “personal best” natural perfumes ~ 6 beautiful fairy perfumes…reviews by Monica Miller

Orchard ~ Artemisia Natural Perfume Perfumer Lisa Fong

Orchard is my favorite perfume so far from Lisa Fong, Artemisia Natural Perfume.

Notes: wild chamomile, vetiver, oak moss, clary sage, jasmine sambac, and mimosa.

Monica: This new perfume from Artemisia Natural Perfume is the most “me” that I have encountered so far from this perfume house. It lasts over three hours on my skin, which is very impressive for a natural perfume. Orchard has a wonderful bright, cheerful entry, a sort of immediate “uplift” – adding to my feeling of “life is right” or “life is pleasure-filled”… and a very full garden, botanically rich bouquet.

How is this perfume an Orchard? It is certainly floral-dirty, grassy, verdant…but with a healthy fruity punch. I feel like it has to be a lot more complex than the notes listed by perfumer Lisa Fong.  It makes me think of biting into grasses, rolling in dirt, of dappled sunshine, dripping fruit, daisy chains, of a lovers embrace and delicious kisses.

Nectar of Love ~ April Aromatics Perfumer Tanja Bochnig

Notes: Top: Neroli, Yuzu
Middle: Rose Otto, Jasmin Sambac, Tuberose
Base: Tonka Bean, Sandalwood, Vanilla Accord

Tanja Bochnig’s Description: The Nectar of Love was the one scent that fit the best into the Midsummer Nights Dream theme. It is a very voluptuous, sweet and sexy perfume. It is in its EDP strength extremely potent on the skin and lasts a long time.
This time of year for me is the most luscious time, when nature is at its full boom and bloom. Everything is about to burst with its full glory. It is THE perfume in my line with the most expensive ingredients and I didn’t spare any of them. When one wears Nectar of Love, they can get lost into the dream of the Midsummers Night, calling their mate, inviting them to play…♥

Monica: Yes, it is. What Tanja said. Very delightfully, playfully, soulfully sexual/sensual ~ this perfume embraces with flowers, warms with ambery notes, and culminates on a tropical bed of tonka, sandal and vanilla bean…. Tanja pulled out all the stoppers woth this perfume…she meant to seduce..this IS a “holds no prisoners” Love Potion!

Eva Luna ~ Providence Perfume Company Perfumer Charna Ethier

Eva Luna is my favorite perfume so far from Charna Ethier Providence Perfume Company.

Notes:  Top Notes: Russian Carrot, Mimosa, fresh Mint, Rosewood.

Heart Notes: Tuberose, Frangipani, Jasmine grandiflorum, French Violet Leaf.

Base Notes: Orris, Oman frankincense, Ambrette.

Charna’s description:

“Verdant carrot kisses, spring green flowers, joyful lovers, a moonlit dance.”

A Love Absurd. A love Supreme.

Named after the most spectacular telenovella ever created, Providence Perfume Co. presents it’s newest fragrance, Eva Luna. The drama, the scandal, the lust! Ah, the folly of love, the perfect parallel for A Midsummer Night’s Dream wherin Shakespeare highlights the absurdity of falling in love. “Lord, what fools these mortals be!”

Monica: I shall say it again… and Mrs.Ida Meister, Perfumista has said so as well… this fragrance is very good. What do we like about it? Well, you will have to ask Ida/Chaya/Lady of Peace and Love for her description but I will say that I am just delighted with Charna’s evolution as a perfumer. Ida named Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Company “Up and coming” Perfumer for the year 2010 and I couldn’t agree more. NOW, that is. At the time I was just a tiny bit non-plussed. I mean, I know Charna’s perfumes were good but… quite a few of the natural perfumers are reaching a type of…breakthrough point. I am impressed NOW that Ida “discovered” this girl (woman!) before others fully understood her artistry. It shows a veteran (Ida) has a perspective, and therefore… ability for prediction…that others, like myself, who are newer to the game, lack. Thank you Ida, for your pre-cognition of this budding perfumer. And thank YOU Charna, for coming up with this delicious, naughty, smile worthy, mischevious and sexy fragrance!

Fare Thee Well, Nymph ~ Blossoming Tree Bodycare Perfumer Lisa A Q

Notes: Clementine, Mandarin Petitgrain, Night Queen, Vanilla, Vetyver, Patchouli, Labdanum, Omumgorwa.

Based upon the character Helena

Monica: I really feel for Helena as a character. So maligned, so confused! She is not truly rejected as she fears and yet her fears play upon her emotional space and psyche so dramatically! Perfumer Lisa Abdul Q of Blossoming Tree Bodycare has captured the Helena character within a fragrance that “lightens the emotional sphere” perfectly for a personality such as Helena’s. As Helena worries about things she needent this fragrance opens the “upper chakras” to help a person see things for what they are, rather than what you fear them to be. Helena is truly a beautiful person, inside and out, despite all of her worries. This delightful, balanced fragrance of:

Mandarin Petitgrain

Night Queen

helps (besides it’s delightful scent!), to bring balance to one’s emotional state. to “see both sides” of an issue or dramatic moment. It helps one to breathe, move back, and see things more clearly. So there you have it. My impression of “Fare Thee Well, Nymph” by Blossoming Tree Bodycare.

Dreams ~ Parfum Phyto

Top notes – coriander, virginian cedarwood
Heart notes – tuberose, violet leaf, cassie
Base notes – hay, flouve, ambrette seeds, ambergris

Monica: Another gorgeous melodic fragrance from Parfum Phyto. Perfumer Yuko Fukami weaves much magic into her fragrances. Like heavy velvet Dreams covers you completely in a soft cloak without being heavy…the colors shimmer and change as it is worn…from deep greens to pinks, purples, indigo and copper. I am reminded of a deep forest pool on a hot summer night, the cool water enveloping one’s body and the fragrance of the forest and water plants all around…Dreams is a beautiful and sensual fragrance…

Night Queen  ~ JoAnne Bassett

Night Queen is my favorite perfume so far from JoAnne Bassett Perfumes.

Night Blooming Jasmine

Quick Facts
-flowers are green, small and not very showy
-not a true Jasmine

From a Plant seller: “In my opinion , Cestrum nocturnum, has the strongest fragrance out of all the fragrant plants we carry. In the evening the fragrance becomes almost intoxicating. It is a common misconception that this bush is fragrant only at night. It is true that the fragrance is stronger in the evening but you can still smell a light scent all day long.”

JoAnne’s Words: So it begins.  I had ordered an interesting oil named Night Queen and had not used it.  This was my chance.  What a strange and inviting smell.  So in the course of an afternoon I added rhododendron, night queen, peru balsam, rosewood, damask rose oil,  neroli, tuberose . .one of my favorite night smells in India or France, vintage jasmine sambac.. another queen of the night, frankincense, yuzu, clove bud, tulsi, frankincense noir – dark and for the night,  champa ~ that you smell on warm Indian nights,  vetiver, violet leaf ~that wonderful green forest smell, and ylang ylang for some extra romance.  With 17 oils this 100% natural perfume said yes.  It will transform you—if you allow it…

Monica: This is a stunning fragrance on moi and a “pesonal best” from JoAnne Bassett ..meaning MY personally favorite fragrance from this perfume house so far. I keep thinking about those sherbet fizzies candies that explode with tangy sweetness in your mouth, tart and juicy, fruity and floral! This is very different- to me- from JoAnne Basett Perfumes. I want a big bottle of this in a spray. Very Very Summer!
