Queen of Punk by Esscentual Alchemy PLAP #12 Summer of Patchouli LOVE 2011, Perfume Pharmer and the Patch Test Bunnies

“It’s dark, dirty, gritty.  Like the underbelly of a city.  A river of deep bass tones carries on it the flotsam and jetsam of a night of wild, youthful rebellion.Queen of Punk by Esscentual Alchemy

The Queen of Punk is a dirty girl.
A dirty, dirty girl.”

“Punk rock had to come along because the rock scene had become so tame that [acts] like Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel were being called rock and roll, when to me and other fans, rock and roll meant this wild and rebellious music.” John Holmstrom

You killed your European son
You spit on those under twenty-one
But now your blue car’s gone
You better say so long
Hey hey, bye bye bye

And so it begins…the scraping of the empty bottle of wine across the strings, and then throwing it across the room.  Just for the hell of it.  The raunchy guitar, and grungy bass.  The feedback.

You made your wallpapers green
You want to make love to the scene
Your European son is gone
You’d better say so long
Your clown’s bid you goodbye

Yes, there is a message in there.  Lyrically, and musically.  Rebellion from “the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. They created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic, with many bands self-producing their recordings and distributing them through informal channels.” (wikipedia)

Would a punk band wear perfume, or would that be seen as an extension of the establishment?

Civet: fixative…strong and fecal, yet floral…

Tobacco: thick, deep brown…warm, earthy, and aromatic.

Dark Patchouli: thick deep brown…woody, earthy, pungent, green, and musky.

Amber: dark and viscous…Smoky, leathery, and resinous.

Cognac: …dry, tart, and strangely wine-like

“In its initial form, a lot of [1960s] stuff was innovative and exciting. Unfortunately, what happens is that people who could not hold a candle to the likes of Hendrix started noodling away. Soon you had endless solos that went nowhere. By 1973, I knew that what was needed was some pure, stripped down, no bullshit rock ‘n’ roll.” Tommy Ramone

Rose Damascena: thick deep red…sweet, entrancingly floral, deep rose.

Coffee Arabica: thick and dark…coffee, tobacco-like, syrupy…rich

Linden Blossom: deep brown…warm, and floral-honey

“Punk was a total cultural revolt. It was a hardcore confrontation with the black side of history and culture, right-wing imagery, sexual taboos, a delving into it that had never been done before by any generation in such a thorough way.” V. Vale

Bitter Orange: greenish orange…tart, zesty, bitter, and sour

Black Pepper: …dry, spicy, pungent, and sharp

Mimosa: …soft, floral-honey, and green

“I have been meaning to write and thank you for the perfume! It is highly original.” Kate Corris, guitarist for The Mo-dettes

A Punk Perfume then?  Oh yes, I think so…

There were a couple of people who said it smelled muddy, though a punk perfume is going to be so.

It’s dark, dirty, gritty.  Like the underbelly of a city.  A river of deep bass tones carries on it the flotsam and jetsam of a night of wild, youthful rebellion.

The Queen of Punk is a dirty girl.

A dirty, dirty girl.
