A Few Of My Favorite (fragrant)Things 2012 ~ Perfume, Perfume Projects, Aromatics. Monica Miller Perfume Pharmer

Disclosure: The opinions stated are my own and are true to my heart and feelings. I am friends with many of the perfumers mentioned, the co-ordinator of Primordial Scents 2012 as well as a participant in the Devilscent Perfume project by Sheila Eggenberger and the Clarimonde Perfume project by Lucy Raubertas. Please understand that my Favorite Things 2012 represent just that, MY favorite things, the aromatics that I have enjoyed the most this year.

My Favorite New Perfume 2012: Flor Azteca by Juan Perez  Exotic Island Perfumes

“Tuberose in its original habitat. An olfactory image of tuberose blooming at night in an Aztec Shaman’s garden”.

Olfactory notes:
Top Notes
Fresh Mexican Tuberose, Massoia Bark (Accord) and Chocolatl.

Heart Notes
Tuberose Absolute, Magnolia, Datura, Fresh Ginger and Pepper.

Base Notes
Mexican Vanilla, Benzoin, Tonka Bean, Copal Negro, Smoky Woods and Mineral Notes.

My Favorite Perfumer 2012: Kedra Hart of Opus Oils for M’EAU Joe, Strawberry Passion, Mother (not officially released), Glam Monster, and Babylon Noir (also not officially released). Perfumer Kedra hart has blown me away this year with several perfumes that leaped into my top favorites of the year. M’Eau Joe № 3 - Hollywood Whiskey Fragrance is the result of the first completely open source fragrance brief, a document that never makes it in front of the public, and is inspired by the three things that resonate with writer Michelle Krell Kydd and perfumer Kedra Hart; rock ‘n roll, the blues and perfume.  For a complete detailing of the secret inner workings of fragrance development, you can read all about it in a story featured on Glass Petal SmokeM’Eau Joe № 3: The Fragrance Brief. The result is a tdf pefume- a power punch of sex, and charisma, an alpha male hormonal brew of lust and seduction.

Strawberry Passion was made from my brief of a comfort scent of creamy strawberry shortcake coupled with strawberry leaves over a richly decadent caramel patchouli love butter. it’s sooooo gooooood, that’s all I can say.

Mother is another primordial Scents perfume, as in EARTH Mother. This is one fine MILF, I know that’s gross but what can you do? Dan Micker’s Mish (THIS video) said it best. Glam Monster and Babylon Noir are also project perfumes- Glam Monster is a perfume made for a company that also produces attire you might not want to wear to your Mother in Law’s house. :)

Best Independent Perfume Business: April Aromatics. Tanja Bochnig Perfumer. April Aromatics has moved mountains this year business wise. Tanja Bochnig’s perfumes have been welcomed into the classiest stores in Europe as well as delving into Russia and elsewhere. As a model both figuratively and actually Tanja is a most wonderful ambassador of natural Perfume, a shining example of quality without compromise. Congratulations Tanja!

Essaouira by Ane Walsh

My Favorite Perfume of Place: Essaouira by Ane Walsh. Named for an experience of a beach in Morocco, Essaouira is a truly remarkable depiction of place as experienced by the perfumer. I am stunned every time I experience it, the perfume tells the story of feet warmed by sand, the fragrant breeze, the water , the scent of skin warmed by sun and cooled by seawater, of oranges sucked for their juice, of an experience of a beach….and a time…..to remember. If anyone needs and anti-depressant scent this time of year, this is it! By special request from the perfumer only. Ane’s Website.

Most Inspired Aromatic Product: Elemetal Alchemy by Lyn Ayre for her Fibronacci Spiral aromatic sequence perfume called “ONE”. ONE was made for the Primordial Scents project and is a kind of Spiritual Culmination as experienced by the Alchemist of Perfume and Life Lyne Ayre ~~ of the spirals of life, of kundalini energy rising, of the tree of life, of the spiraling galaxy we live in, of an evolving universe, of us and our connection to all that IS… well done Lyn, you are truly an inspired woman, and you have done/ are doing the work , congratulations!

In the Words of perfumer Lyn Ayre:

“On March 1st, I woke up and was clear as a bell-tone, having done a great deal of personal work over the previous two weeks. I’d had a dream, on Feb 29th and it was shown to me how I would create the perfume; the symbol for it was burned into my memory; these notes were also given so that others can see that no matter what is going on in his or her life, it will change as change is the only constant there is. I was given a name for this fragrance, Ele-Metal Alchemy, and was told it would be designed in five spiralling layers featuring the elements of the first five Chakras. I saw the red atomizer. When I woke up, I quickly went to my computer to journal and get it all going.

The symbol triangles are denoted as follows: Fire, light red, pointing up; Water, light blue, pointing down; Air, light purple, pointing from right to left; Earth, light yellow, pointing from left to right. All is surrounded by the black, Yin Energy of the Universe, which is physical matter. The Invisible Force, which is Yang Energy, is the Quantum Field from which we all come and to which we all go. The Red Infinity Symbols show the passion we can bring to our lives when we take a stand on our Point of Power (gold circle in the middle).

My symbol depicts a pinwheel. It is spinning clockwise like a Fibonacci spiral, which is found everywhere in our Universe and is full of these Primordial Elements. I consider all clockwise spirals to be a portal into another realm. “

Best Perfume Project: Primordial Scents 2012 , and The traveling Perfume for PEACE (and here is the fb group)………..

Best Perfume Book: Perfuming With Natural Isolates by Shelley Waddington. This deceptively slim textbook has brought some tools to natural perfumery that are helpful within the formulating process in a way that takes natural perfume to the next level. groundbreaking, well done Shelley!

Best New Aromatic Product line OTHER than perfume: Aftelier Perfumes Chef’s Essences Sprays. Unique, desirable, natural and potent. Pure genius.

Most Inspired Fragrance/ Fashion Crossover: Clarimonde Perfume Project by Lucy Raubertas of Indieperfumes. The Fashion choices and accessories inspired by the character Clarimonde are enjoyed daily by Perfumistas and Fashionitstas on Lucy’s fb Clarimonde page. The “Cult of Clarimonde”has become an alter ego for many and represents a fantasy lifestyle that is fun and inspiring.

and Emily Fischer of Flat Point Farm Martha’s Vineyard for her Felted Goats Milk Soap. A gentle nourishing therapeutic fresh (not dried!) goats milk soap scented beautifully and covered with sensual and delicately exfoliating Martha’s Vineyard sheeps wool felt.

Best Incense: Mephisto by Mermade Magickal Arts Perfumer Katlyn Breene. Mephisto was concocted for the Devilscent Perfume project by Sheila Eggenberger.

“Mephisto is  “Goatish Labdanum”, something dark, sexy and extremely untamed. Within my cabinettes of curiosity there just happens to be something just waiting for this blend.  Labdanum from Crete complete with a few goat hairs.  I knew there must be a place for this strange fragrant black stuff…. I  added to this the most wonderful Black Frankincense from Oman.

Yes, it is really black and delicious . And then Dark Patchouli, tears of Myrrh, contraban Aloeswood…. all found their way into the mix. This is sexy stuff.”

Best Perfume Pharmer: Robert Seidel AKA the Guerilla Distiller of The Essential Oil Company for Small Scale USA Distillation of Quality Aromatic Essential Oils and Hydrosols.

Best fb Perfume Chat Group: PEACE-LOVE-PERFUME by Carlos Powell. Not only do I feel welcome in this group I feel loved. we talk about our deepest feelings …and perfume.

Friends prayer,

You have blessed us, O God,
with the gift of friendship,
the bonding of persons
in a circle of love.
We thank you for such a blessing:
for friends who love us,
who share our sorrows,
who laugh with us in celebration,
who bear our pain,
who need us as we need them,
who weep as we weep,
who hold us when words fail,
and who give us the freedom
to be ourselves.
Bless our friends with health,
wholeness, life, and love.
Amen.
